The River of Doubt Summary

After Theodore Roosevelt lost the presidential election to Woodrow Wilson he decided to map an almost 1,000-mile-long Amazon tributary with his wife, Kermit and Colonel Cândido Rondon. The source of the river was found by Rondon but it had never been mapped or explored. They took a boat to South America in the fall of 1913. There were many difficulties like rain, hard to maneuver canoes, rapids, waterfalls, little food, disease, murder, and drowning. Theodore and Kermit both got malaria but Theodore got it three months into the trip and was really close to death. He had a fever of 105 and lost 50 pounds. He got so sick that he seriously considered committing suicide by taking a lethal dose of morphine, which was very unlike him. In the end Kermit saved him with his canoe and rope skills. All the men, except three, survived the trip and lived to the river get put on the map of South America. The river was nicknamed Rio Roosevelt and a branch of the river was named Rio Kermit in Kermit’s honor.

Evaluating Websites

#1 I looked at two websites, one about Google Gulp Drink and the was about Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanies. The site about Google Gulp Drink is not legit because there is no contact information and in the FAQ they gave answers that a true site wouldn't give. Even though aluminum foil deflector beanies aren't very believable I think it is true because he gave contact info and answered all of his questions seriously.

#3 I looked at three different websites about the city of Mankato, Minnesota. I think the second website would be the best to use for my report because the links took me to the right places and they had contact information.

Overall though, I don't really think any of these websites are legit.

Citing Sources

I used three different online citation machines to cite my sources to three different websites. I used CitationMachine, Cite.Me, and EasyBib. I liked CitationMachine and EasyBib best. I liked CitationMachine because it was simple and didnt make things harder then they had to be, like Cite.Me did. I liked EasyBib because it did most of my work for me, i only had to fill out a few things that it didn't know. I think EasyBib was harder to figure out but after I understood what I had to do it was really easy. Whenever I have to cite my sources I will defiantly use CitationMachine or EasyBib.

Avatars

An avatar is a virtual character you can create that could be of yourself or any random character. You could use avatars personally because they're really fun to make, and at places like GoAnimate you can even put your avatars in movies you create. Avatars like Vokis have also been used for school because you can create it to look like yourself and it can talk. A teacher for example could have her Voki read the assignment for the day. You could do the same in buisness, like the Voki could read new updates. The only avatar that I can remember recently making, outside of this class, is a Mii for Wii. I made an avatar at Voki, GoAnimate, and Clay Yourself and my favorite was GoAnimate. I liked this one best because you can change more things about your avatar than you can in the other two sites. Another thing that I thought was cool about the avatars at GoAnimate was that you could put them in movies you make. Lastly i liked it because you can make different types of avatars for certain skits.

Feed Readers

I recently made two different feed readers. I made a google reader, and a reader at Bloglines. They both had the same idea, but they were a little different. The Google Reader is easy because i go to Google for a lot of things so I don't have to memorize a lot of websites. But I don't like how it's just in a big list. With the bloglines reader it keeps all the things you follow in separate boxes and you can add widgets. I like the Google Reader because it's easier to keep everything at one site, but I think i like how things work better on Bloglines.
